Our work in Asia Pacific
Preventing corruption, promoting integrity and protecting natural resources
Working with partners across the Asia-Pacific region, we have:
- Contributed training and technical assistance that supported Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry in securing its first money laundering conviction linked to forestry crime.
- Supported corruption prevention efforts in Indonesia by developing practical conflict of interest guidance for public institutions, helping strengthen safeguards against collusion, nepotism and other integrity risks.
- Pioneered new approaches to tackling sexual corruption in higher education, by developing a methodology with an Indonesian university to measure risks and inform prevention measures.
- Promoted business integrity and Collective Action approaches through regional partnerships, including with the Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific.
- Generated practical research and evidence to strengthen anti-corruption responses, including analysis of illegal wildlife trade networks operating in Southeast Asia and extensive research on informal governance and corruption risks in Central Asia.
- Trained hundreds of anti-corruption practitioners across the region in financial investigations and asset recovery, alongside technical assistance on cases, legal frameworks and institutional reforms.
- Advanced civil society participation in asset recovery efforts by contributing to the development of guidance for the G8 Arab Forum on Asset Recovery to strengthen the role of civil society in supporting the recovery of stolen assets.
Our work with partners
Our work in Asia spans asset recovery, corruption prevention, environmental governance and business integrity. We combine technical assistance through in-country advisors with targeted regional initiatives.
In Indonesia, our Green Corruption programme works with environmental agencies and state-owned enterprises to strengthen corruption prevention linked to forestry, natural resources and carbon markets. Through a programme launched in 2025, we support Indonesian partners to strengthen corruption risk management approaches and safeguards relating to environmental governance. Recent programmes also provided enforcement and asset recovery support linked to environmental crime. This work is delivered together with partners including Transparency International, WWF and TRAFFIC.
In Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, our International Centre for Asset Recovery supports government efforts to recover stolen assets through a combination of in-country advisors and HQ support.
In Thailand and the Philippines, our work primarily promotes business integrity through partnerships with public institutions, international organisations and the private sector.
At the regional level, we contribute to anti-corruption and business integrity initiatives across the region, including serving on the Advisory Group of the OECD-ADB Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific. For a multilateral development bank, we are also conducting a survey on integrity challenges affecting companies operating in the region.
